Building and Dissolving

Instructor: Robert Petrick · Designed in 2019 SPRING

Before starting my design, I watched the documentary on how Andy Goldsworthy work as a sculptor. In the documentary “Rivers and Tides”, Andy creates sculptures and arts using natural materials like wood, leaves, ice, and stone… His artwork will eventually disappear and fall apart as time pass. After the documentary, I came up with this concept that tightens up the whole book, which is “Building and Dissolving”.

In the article section, I start with very tight leading, and throughout the pages I slightly increased the leading to show the process of growing, and by decreasing the leading, I am showing dissolution. In the gallery section, the gaps can be interpreted in two ways, it is showing the process of “building”, but it could also be “dissolving”.
