Art Histories of a Forever War: Modernism between Space and Home was held in October 2021 and featured two guest curators, Fong-Chi Hsu and Li-Ying Chen. They interwove a grand narrative with works from the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) collection and contemporary artworks selected by the curators, spanning from modernist works to contemporary pieces produced in the field.

Three interwoven themes— “Cosmic Technology after the Space Race”, “Universal Domesticity”, and “Aesthetic Networks in the Free World”—analyze the complexity of the historical climate of the time. Interactive debates with contemporary research projects fill in the gaps of historical writing and offer reflections on Taiwan's position today in the face of diverse global issues.

The design of the exhibition catalog begins with a round die cut on the outer box, echoing the glass round window of the exhibition venue. This design responds to architect/artist Da-Hung Wang's fusion of Chinese and Western modernism, evoking the imagination of cosmic spatial consciousness. The inner pages are organized bi-directionally in Chinese and English, aiming to restore the dynamic flow of the exhibition venue through the sequence of the pages. This arrangement facilitates inter-textual dialogues on the intersection of East and West, modern and contemporary. Consequently, the book is divided into separate reading directions for Chinese and English (left for English, right for Chinese).
